DIY Striped Dresser

If you need a new dresser but don't have a lot of money to buy a brand new one, no worries!

I'll show you how to make this:

from this:

Restoring an old dresser is extremely easy and in my opinion, better than buying a new one. You can customize it anyway you'd like and it's very cheap.

You'll just need:

1. An old dresser (you can use one you already have, or go to your local thrift stores and yard sales)
2. 2 pints of paint - 1 for the color of the dresser, 1 for the stripes
3. Painter's Tape
4. Paintbrushes
5. Spray Paint (I used Kryon Silver Spray Paint - $6.99 - Michael's Arts & Crafts)
6. Ruler
7. Screw Driver

Step 1: Clean down the dresser and sand down if necessary.

Step 2: Remove all hardware.

Step 3: Apply 2-3 coats of your base color paint. Let dry.

Step 4: Establish how thick you want your stripes to be using a ruler, and tape off. Next, apply 1-2 coats of your stripe color and let dry.

Step 5: As the paint is drying, lay out all of your hardware onto newspaper or whatever you'd like to use.

Step 6: Holding the spray paint can 10-12 inches away, spray the hardware until they're all covered. Let dry according to manufacture's directions.

Step 7: When everything is dry, remove all tape.

Step 8: Attach the hardware back on.

Step 9 (Optional): Add some picture frames and other accessories that represent your style! :)

Never think just because something is old and used it can not be transformed into something beautiful and modern! With a little TLC and some hard work, you can refurbish any piece in your home to leave you with a unique piece that is customized for you and your style.
